As an enthusiastic, compassionate, and dedicated registered dietitian, Sharon Kong, strives to
empower and aspires to educate people to live a healthier lifestyle. Her interest in nutrition
started when she was overweight in her early teens. She wanted to lose weight but did it the
unhealthy way by eating too little and exercising too much. She later realized that moderation
is key to a successful and safe weight loss. Her experience with being overweight and losing
the weight prompted her to major in Dietetics so that she can learn more about nutrition.
She believes in a science-based approach to weight management that incorporates lifestyle
change, behavior modification and moderation, which is why she enjoys working at MV
Nutrition. Her expertise in nutrition and food science, behavior modification, motivational
interviewing, and cognitive therapy assures her client’s success. She guides them to finding the
healthier solutions to a variety of challenges that may arise during their process of change. In
addition, she emphasizes how to improve their quality of life through nutrient intake, healthy
activity, and proper stress management.
Sharon has experience ranging from the clinical setting to the community environment, allowing
her to have sufficient knowledge in many different diseases, conditions, and cultures. In addition
to private practice, she worked at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo assisting patients from
various backgrounds with an array of medical conditions, such as morbid obesity, diabetes,
high cholesterol, hypertension, PCOS, AIDS, and cancer. Furthermore, she has taught general
nutrition classes to young children and parents at Headstart and WIC, and young and older adults
at Pasadena City College.
Furthermore, she has developed and analyzed multiple types of menus, nutrition brochures and
handouts, and presentations. Her proficiency in Cantonese shows her versatility and cultural
sensitivity to counsel and teach in a bilingual setting.
Sharon received her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from San Francisco State University. To
gain more experience in the nutrition field, she worked at California Pacific Medical Center as a
dietitian assistant. Then, she completed her dietetic internship through Cal Poly Pomona. She is
also concurrently working as a nutrition coach at an online weight management company, Eating
Free, where she counsels clients on weight loss, sport nutrition, and healthier lifestyle. She is in
the process of becoming a Certified Diabetic Educator.
